The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has extended the deadline for submission of ESI contributions for the month of February to May 15 in view of the nationwide lockdown. ESIC gave this information on Tuesday. It is worth mentioning that earlier the date of submission of contributions of February and March was extended till 15 April and 15 May respectively.
Significantly, the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation has taken this step after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement to extend the nationwide lockdown by 3 May amid the nationwide lockdown to prevent the corona virus epidemic. Regarding the reasons for extending the deadline for filing ESI contributions, the labor ministry said in a statement that many establishments are temporarily closed. Due to the restrictions imposed by the Kovid-19 crisis, workers are unable to work, due to which no penalty or interest will be levied on establishments during the extended period of filing ESI contributions.
This decision of the Ministry of Labor will provide relief to 3.49 crore insured persons and 12,11,174 employers. Apart from this, ESIC has also taken some other relief measures for the beneficiaries.
