Blog single photoThe Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said on Wednesday that the Income Tax Department has issued 10.2 lakh refunds worth Rs 4,250 crore in the last one week. Significantly, the Finance Ministry said last week that it would release pending refunds of up to Rs 5 lakh as soon as possible, benefitting 1.4 million taxpayers facing Kovid-19.

However, the Central Board of Direct Taxes has stated that in 1.74 lakh cases, taxpayers’ e-mails are being awaited for matching the outstanding tax refunds. The CBDT has said that taxpayers have been asked to reply within 7 days by sending a reminder mail so that the department can process their refund.

The Income Tax Department has said in an official statement that till April 14, 10.2 lakh refunds worth a total of Rs 4,250 crore have been issued. Also this week about 1.75 lakh more taxpayers are waiting for their mail to send refund.

It may be noted that CBDT is the apex government body in the direct tax sector related to personal income tax and company tax matters. The department has said that in about 1.74 lakh cases, taxpayers have been asked to resolve their refunds with the old outstanding tax demand. A reminder has also been sent for this, in which they have been asked to respond within 7 days so that the refund process can be completed at the earliest. CBDT has said that taxpayers can reply to the Income Tax Department by logging into their e-filing account for this.
