The plan to build affordable houses under the PM Awas Yojana has gained momentum after four years. Uttarakhand Awas Vikas Parishad has approved three projects of total 3568 EWS flats proposed by private investors at Rudrapur, Kashipur, Sitarganj. Under PM Awas Yojana (Urban), the state government has planned to buy EWS category flats from private investors and give them to homeless people.
The responsibility has been given to the Housing Development Council. The council had sought proposals from private investors for this, on which proposals to build a total of 9248 EWS flats in nine different cities have come to the council. However, now in the election year, the council has given a green signal to a total of three projects located at Kashipur- Kanakpur, Ukrauli- Sitarganj and Bigwara- Rudrapur, accelerating the work in this direction. Objections have been sought, making the details of the projects public.

Flat will be available for three and a half lakh rupees
Under the scheme, the builder will build EWS category flats of minimum 30- 30 square meters from his own budget on his land on contract basis with the council, the average price of a flat has been fixed at Rs.6 lakh. For this, people will also get a total subsidy of up to 2.5 lakh rupees with the help of the central and state government. People will get flats only for a total of three and a half lakh rupees.
