Electric two-wheelers are getting huge subsidy but not increasing sales
Despite the government subsidizing a lot, the sales of electric t-wheelers are quite low. Despite the government’s three-year FAME-2 scheme (FY 2020-2022), only two per cent of the sales of two-wheelers that were targeted by the half of 2020 could be completed. E-wheelers accounted for less than one per cent of all e-vehicles sold during the financial year 2019-20.

Most people are not aware of subsidy

Experts say that the customers are not aware of the subsidy being given by the government on e-wheelers. Sales are also not increasing due to problems with after sales service. However, due to continuous efforts of the government, sales of e-wheelers have increased by 21 percent in 2019-20 compared to 2018-19. But sales of high-speed e-wheelers declined by 25 per cent during the financial year 2020-21.

FAME-2 scheme not used

Despite the government’s full thrust under the Fame-2 scheme, the sales and demand for e-wheelers is very poor. The government is trying hard to promote e-vehicle. A few days ago the government announced that the government has decided to allow the sale of pre-fitted batteries without them. Now these vehicles will be registered without the already fitted battery. Electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler will be able to sell and register without the battery. In fact, the cost of the battery is 30 to 40 percent of the total cost of electric vehicles. With the decision of the government, the price of these vehicles can be reduced. A separate battery will be provided by the Energy Service Provider.
