With the introduction of Lockdown Part-2, there has been relief news for the government. The wholesale inflation rate also declined in March after the retail inflation. According to the data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday, WPI has come down to 1 percent in March 2020. It is worth noting that earlier in February, this rate was at the level of 2.26 per cent. According to the data, inflation declined by 1.26 percent in March.

However , the figure may be revised in the coming time. The government has also released an explanation along with the March wholesale inflation data. The government has said that the lockdown for the last 21 days has had some impact on the data collection work in March and there may be significant revisions in the figure in the coming years. With this, the government revised the January wholesale inflation figure from 3.10 per cent to 3.52 per cent.

It is noteworthy that the wholesale inflation has moderated due to the fall in the prices of food items. According to government data, food inflation in February was 7.79 percent , which has come down to 4.91 percent in March. At the same time , on an annual basis, the wholesale inflation was at 3.18 percent in March last year. The decline in wholesale inflation has been witnessed due to a steep decrease in the price of food and beverages in the country.

Apart from this, the wholesale inflation rate of vegetables has also come down in the month of March. It declined from 29.97 per cent in February to 11.90 per cent in March. At the same time , negative growth of 1.76 per cent was observed in fuel and power inflation , while the inflation rate of manufactured goods has been increased by 0.34 per cent.
