Kotdwar. The 16th Garhwal Rifles won the 70th Garhwal Cup Football Tournament being organised by the late Shashidhar Bhatt Sports Institute at the State Sports Stadium, Kotdwar. Garhwal Rifles defeated Doon City FC in a tough final match played on Sunday. The Golden Boot award was given to Garhwal Rifles player Angel Rawat. Angel scored the most goals in the tournament, seven.The final was inaugurated by the chief guest hotelier Chand Maula Bakhsh after introducing himself to the players of both the teams. In the final match, Angel Rawat from Garhwal Rifles scored the first goal in the sixth minute of the first half and gave his team a 1-0 lead. In the 80th minute of the second half, Angel Rawat scored the second goal and gave his team a 2-0 lead. In the 87th minute of the second half, Snehil Chhetri of Doon City scored a goal and brought the match to a 2-1 margin. In the end, Garhwal Rifles won the tournament by a margin of 2-1.Rohit, Shivam, Prakash, Hrithik Negi were the referees. Meherban Negi, Tarun Ishtwal and Sudhir Bahuguna did the commentary. In the closing ceremony, the chief guest and the officials of the sports organization honored the winning team 16th Garhwal Rifles by presenting a cheque of one lakh rupees and a trophy and the runner-up team Doon City FC by presenting a cheque of 51 thousand rupees and a trophy. The organization’s president Arun Bhatt expressed gratitude to those who helped in the successful conduct of the competition. District Football Association Pauri’s secretary Sunil Rawat, Subedar Major Shailendra Mohan Bisht, Colonel Chandripal Patwal (Retd.), Gopal Jasola, Harish Verma, Dhirendra Kandhari, Siddharth Uniyal, Atul Bhatt, Bhagwant Singh Gusain, PG College’s principal Prof. DS Negi etc. were present.
