Kotdwar. Two quarter final matches were played on Wednesday, the fourth day of the eight-day Garhwal Cup Football Tournament being held in the memory of former Municipal Chairman Late Shashidhar Bhatt at the State Sports Stadium Kotdwar. In which 16th Garhwal Rifles and Areva Noida won and entered the semi-finals.
The fourth day of the tournament was inaugurated by the chief guest Subedar Major Shailendra Mohan Singh Bisht after getting introduced to the players of both the teams. The first league match was played between the teams of 16th Garhwal Rifles and Delhi Customs. In the 16th minute of the first half, Garhwal Rifles player Angel Rawat scored a goal and gave the team a 1-0 lead.
In the 53rd minute of the second half, Aman scored a goal to give his team a 2-0 lead. Angel Rawat scored the third goal in the 57th minute and the fourth goal in the 75th minute. Delhi Customs’ Nitin scored a goal in the 80th minute to give his team a 4-1 lead. The score remained the same till the end and Garhwal Rifles entered the semi-finals. Garhwal Rifles’ Angel Rawat scored a hat-trick of goals in the match.
The second quarter final match was inaugurated by the outgoing president of Mandi Samiti Suman Kotanala. The second quarter final match was played between Areva Noida and Pauri District Football Association. In the 9th minute of the first half, Pauri’s Rahul scored a goal to give his team a 1-0 lead. From Areva Noida’s side, Fahed Deko scored a goal in the 31st minute to level the match. Noida player Hajim scored the second goal in the 40th minute. In the second half, the team of Pauri tried to score a goal, but could not succeed. In this way Areva Noida won the match 2-1 and reached the semi-finals.
