New Delhi: The Supreme Court has called the cancellation of nearly three crore Ration Cards due to non-linking with Aadhaar Card is a very serious matter And have sought answers from the Central Government and all the states on this matter.

A bench of Chief Justice (CJI) SA Bobde and Justices AC Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramanian said on Wednesday that it should not be viewed as an adversarial case as it is a very serious matter.

Lekhi said that notices had already been issued in this case and the Center’s reply was on record. Gonzalvis said that the notice was issued not on the main petition, but on alternative grievance redressal.

This petition has been filed by Devi, whose 11-year-old daughter Santoshi died of starvation in Jharkhand on September 28, 2018.

Santoshi’s sister Gudiya Devi is a joint petitioner in the case. The petition states that her ration card was canceled by the local authorities for not being attached to the Aadhaar card, due to which her family stopped receiving ration from March 2007,

And the whole family was forced to go hungry and their daughter Santoshi died due to lack of food.
