The Chief Secretary apprised the Chairman of the Railway Board that there are a total of five railway projects in the state. Of these, three are proposed and work is currently underway on two projects including Rishikesh-Karnprayag.Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan on Tuesday raised the issue of five proposed rail projects in the state with Railway Board Chairman and Executive Satish Kumar in New Delhi. He said that the DPR of Gangotri-Yamunotri and Tanakpur-Bageshwar rail projects has been prepared. He requested the Railway Board to approve the DPR of these two projects and start work soon. He also discussed the possibilities of extending the Regional Rapid Transit System from Meerut to Haridwar.The Chief Secretary apprised the Chairman of the Railway Board that there are a total of five rail projects in the state. The total distance of the Gangotri Yamunotri Rail Project is 121.76 km and there are 10 stations. Its survey work has been completed and the DPR has been made available to the Railway Board. Approval is awaited on this. The total distance of the Tanakpur Bageshwar Rail Project is 170.70 km and there are 12 stations. Its survey work has been completed and the DPR has been made available to the Railway Board. Approval is awaited on this. The total distance of the Dehradun-Saharanpur Rail Project is 92.60 km and there are eight stations in it. Its survey work is in progress.
He also discussed the doubling of Haridwar-Dehradun railway line and development of Harrawala railway station of Dehradun. Apart from this, the possibilities of expansion of Regional Rapid Transit System from Meerut to Haridwar were also discussed. The Chief Secretary said that the connection of inaccessible hilly areas of Uttarakhand with the rail network, industrial, economic and social development of the state, smooth movement of devotees throughout the year in world famous Dhams, pilgrimages and development of railways in terms of infrastructure in view of strategic importance is very important for the state.
