Without installing a check meter outside the house, UPCL officials handed over a bill of Rs 1.64 lakh and Rs 82 thousand for slow meter, adding the bill of Rs 2.20 lakh. The Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum took the calculation of 65 days instead of 141 days and ordered to deposit a lesser amount.
In two cases of illegal recovery from electricity consumers, the Electricity Ombudsman has cancelled the orders of the forum. In one case, the Ombudsman has ordered to return the fine amount collected to the consumer. The first case is of Roorkee resident Suman Singhal.
His allegation was that without informing him, UPCL officials installed a check meter outside his house and handed him a bill of Rs 1 lakh 64 thousand and Rs 82 thousand for slow meter, adding the bill. When pressure was put on him to disconnect his connection, he deposited this amount. He said that the reading of the check meter was wrong. The Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum ordered to deposit a lesser amount by taking the calculation of 65 days instead of 141 days in the case.
