Officials of Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL) claim that by the end of 2026, trains will start running on the Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway line. The construction of two big bridges on the railway line will be completed by August next year. There are 19 bridges in the entire project, out of which five have been completed. At the same time, 86 percent of the work of digging the tunnels has been completed.
On Friday, RVNL Chief Project Manager Ajit Yadav spoke to journalists in the office premises. He said that the total length of the main tunnels is 104 km, out of which 85 km of digging work has been completed. The total length including auxiliary tunnels is 213 km, out of which 184 km has been dug.A total of 46 break throughs were to be made in the tunnels, of which 28 have been completed. 10 more break throughs will be completed by March next year. The remaining break throughs will also be completed by December 2025. Yadav said that the construction of two big bridges is taking time.A 125 meter span bridge is being built in Devprayag-Saud. This bridge will be launched in January. A 80 meter span bridge is also being built in Gauchar. The construction of both these bridges will be completed by August.
Out of the total 19 bridges, five are ready
There are 19 big bridges in the entire project. Out of which Dhalwala, Shivpuri, Gular, Lakshmoli, Srinagar are ready. The construction work of the bridges is also about 70 percent complete.
A track without ballast will be built inside the tunnels
A track without ballast will be built inside the tunnels. CPM Yadav said that the tender process for this has been completed. The design of the track will be ready by December. The track work will be started from January next year. While in the area outside the tunnel, only a track with ballast will be built.
Completing the work of tunnel number five on time is a challenge
It is a big challenge for the Railway Development Corporation to complete the digging of tunnel number five (Kodiyala to Pantgaon) on time. Due to the non-availability of adit in Sakni Dhar area, this tunnel is being dug from only two ends. Due to which the pace of work here is very slow. At the same time, the tunnel is being dug more than one km below the ground level. Due to which the pressure of debris is high here. Therefore, digging is being done slowly with full caution.
