The High Court has directed the government to clarify its position on the issue of deciding OBC reservation in the civic elections.
The High Court heard a PIL filed regarding deciding OBC reservation in the municipal elections to be held in the state. The court has directed the state government to inform about the situation by November 6. The case was heard before a division bench of Acting Chief Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari and Justice Vivek Bharti Sharma.
During the hearing, it was said on behalf of the petitioner that the state government is determining reservation in the bodies as per the 2011 census. The 2018 civic elections were held on this basis but at present the OBC vote bank has increased in the plains of the state instead of the hills.
Therefore, reservation should be given on the basis of the report of the OBC committee. The state government said that the state government has issued a notification regarding reservation. Objections have been sought from them in this. The objections will be resolved by October 27.
