The government on Friday announced a relief package of Rs 26,000 crore in view of fears that the second wave of Corona would affect the working of daily wage laborers and other lower class workers. With this amount, under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, five-five kilograms of free grains will be distributed to the poor in May and June. From April to November last year, free ration was distributed under this scheme.
80 crore poor people will get help
According to the decision, about 80 crore poor people coming under the National Food Security Act will get its benefit.
This grain will be in addition to the grains received under the Public Distribution System (PDS). At the same time, looking at the situation like lockdown in various states, other relief packages are being seriously considered in the Finance Ministry. These include steps such as loan moratorium and expansion of unsecured loans.
