Bamboo industry will be worth 25-30 thousand crore rupees: Nitin Gadkari hoped that with the efforts of all, the bamboo industry in India will become 25-30 thousand crore rupees. Cost effective and attractive product designs can increase the use of bamboo and its demand which will also encourage people to plant bamboo. He assured all assistance from the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises for any scheme related to promotion of bamboo.

Need to increase demand for bamboo: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that there is a need to increase demand for bamboo. He said that bamboo has the potential to be used as an alternative to coal and can also be used in construction works. Nitin Gadkari said that soon the use of jute and coir matrices would be made compulsory for all the National Highways Authority of India roads. He advocated more development of traditional materials like jute, coir and bamboo.

Trying to get subsidy from the railway: Nitin Gadkari said that he is trying to get 50 percent subsidy from the railway for bamboo and bamboo poles. He expressed confidence that increasing the use and requirement of bamboo will result in growth in its planting. He said that bamboo can also be used to make bio-CNG and charcoal and IITs can be involved to carry out further research on this with the help of special grants from the Bamboo Mission.

Earlier, Nitin Gadkari has also given information about the plan to create 2 lakh employment opportunities by planting bamboo trees along the highways in the northeastern states. He had said in a statement that bamboo is available in Arunachal Pradesh and other areas. According to Gadkari, he has asked the importers to cultivate it.
