– BIS Dehradun Branch Office Partners with SMAU International to Boost Quality Consciousness, Product Safety, and Compliance Among Regional Manufacturers

– Interactive Technical Sessions Detail Safety Requirements, Performance Parameters, and ‘Ease of Compliance’ Framework for Electric Fans under IS 302 and IS 374

The Bureau of Indian Standards, Dehradun Branch Office, in association with the SMAU International Industry & Trade Chambers, successfully organised an Industry Meet and Manak Manthan on “Electric Type Fans as per IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 80), IS 374 and Related Standards” at Private Hotel, SIDCUL Bypass Road, Haridwar.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from manufacturers of electric fans, industry representatives, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders from Haridwar. The programme was attended by Sh. Hemant Aade, Head, BIS Dehradun Branch Office, and Sh. Harinder Garg, Chairman, SMAU International Industry & Trade Chambers, who appreciated the initiative taken by BIS to promote quality consciousness, standardization, and regulatory compliance among industries.

The primary objective of the programme was to create awareness among industries regarding Indian Standards, BIS Product Certification, Quality Control Orders (QCOs), conformity assessment requirements, and the importance of manufacturing quality and product safety.
The technical sessions were conducted by Sh. Peeyush Prakash, Scientist-D, and Ms. Neelam Singh, Scientist-D, Bureau of Indian Standards, Dehradun Branch Office.

During the technical sessions, the speakers elaborated on the provisions of IS 302 (Part 2/Sec 80), IS 374, and other related Indian Standards applicable to electric type fans. They explained the safety requirements, performance parameters, testing requirements, BIS Product Certification Scheme, laboratory testing procedures, marking requirements, and compliance obligations under the applicable Quality Control Orders.

The participants were also apprised of the various initiatives undertaken by BIS under its Ease of Compliance framework to simplify and streamline certification procedures, making them more transparent, efficient, and time-bound. The speakers emphasized that adherence to Indian Standards not only ensures product quality and consumer safety but also enhances consumer confidence and improves the competitiveness of Indian products in domestic as well as international markets.
Industry representatives were encouraged to obtain BIS certification for their products and actively participate in the formulation, revision, and review of Indian Standards so that the standards remain practical, technologically updated, and aligned with industry requirements.
An interactive technical session was also held during the programme, wherein participants raised several queries relating to BIS certification procedures, testing requirements, implementation of Indian Standards, Quality Control Orders, and regulatory compliance. BIS officials responded to the queries in detail and provided practical guidance on certification requirements and effective implementation of the relevant Indian Standards.

The participants also shared valuable suggestions for enhancing industry participation in standardization activities and further simplifying certification procedures. BIS officials welcomed the suggestions and assured the participants that stakeholder feedback would be duly considered while planning future outreach programmes and standardization initiatives.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming the shared commitment of the Bureau of Indian Standards and the SMAU International Industry & Trade Chambers to promote a culture of quality, encourage wider adoption of Indian Standards, facilitate regulatory compliance, and strengthen the competitiveness of Indian industry through standardization and quality assurance
