Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday met Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Chief Scientist of WHO and discussed the global health body’s approval for Bharat Biotech’s Corona Vaccine. Mandaviya said in a tweet that he had a meeting with WHO Chief Scientist Dr. Soumya Swaminathan. In this meeting, we had a fruitful discussion on the approval of Bharat Biotech’s Covaccine. In the meeting, Dr. Soumya appreciated the efforts made by India for the prevention of corona.

Last month, the Rajya Sabha was told that all necessary documents have been submitted to the World Health Organization (WHO) by July 9 for inclusion of Bharat Biotech’s vaccine in the Emergency Use List (EUL). Responding to a question whether it has come to the notice of the government that the covaccine used as a covid vaccine in India is not recognized in many countries, the Minister of State for Health, Bharti Praveen Pawar, in a written reply said that the Government of India The U.S. is aware that the vaccine is not currently part of the WHO’s Emergency Use List (EUL).

Elaborating on the efforts made by the government to address the issue, Pawar said that all the documents required for Emergency Use List (EUL) by Bharat Biotech International Limited have been submitted to WHO by 9 July 2021. WHO has started the review process. WHO typically takes up to six weeks to make a decision on emergency use list (EUL) submissions.

Developed by Bharat Biotech in partnership with the National Institute of Virology and the Indian Council of Medical Research, Covaccine was approved for emergency use on January 3. Later test results showed that this vaccine is 78 percent effective.
