State wild life board convenes 13th annual meet, gives nod to laldang chillarkhal road.
Headed by chief minister Trivender singh rawat ,uttarakhand state wildlife board convened its 13th annual meeting on Saturday.Deveral crucial decisions on various pending projects were taken in this meet.Among the major decisions ,Laldang – Chillarkhal road was given a goahead for acquiring further approvals from national wildlife protection board as directed by the supreme court a few days back.
State government retracted from its decision of construction of kandi road cutting through Corbett tiger reserve. The decision was taken after a presentation was given on the project by the wildlife institute of india.Top officials on the board reportedly pointed out the state needs roads in the hills and not in the forests. They argued against putting wildlife at risk just to connect a few willages.
However ,state forest minister Harak singh rawat maintained that the final decision on the kandi road project will be taken after wildlife institute of india gives its final report on it.Majority of decisions taken by us were in sync with the public sentiments as they are the ones who get affected by the projects relating to wildlife and forest.Kandi road project is still under consideration. We asked the wild life institute to come up with suitable options to take the project forward.
