JIPMER Celebrates Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti; Releases “Vanakkam JIPMER” Newsletter

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research observed the birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar with solemnity and respect at its campus on 14 April 2026. The occasion brought together faculty, students, staff, and representatives of various unions and associations, who assembled to pay floral tributes to the portrait of the great social reformer and principal architect of the Indian Constitution.
Dr. Vir Singh Negi, Director, JIPMER, led the observance in the presence of Dr. Vikram Kate, Dean Academics, Dr. Vinod Kumar Saka, Medical Superintendent, Shri S. Rangabashiam, Deputy Director (Admn.), Shri Hawa Singh, Senior Administrative Officer, along with other dignitaries.
Marking the significance of the day, the Director released the official JIPMER newsletter titled Vanakkam JIPMER, a publication that captures the institute’s key achievements, initiatives, and milestones, and serves as a window into the vibrant academic, clinical, and research landscape of JIPMER.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Vir Singh Negi reflected on the enduring legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, underscored the continued relevance of his ideals in contemporary society. He emphasized that Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of social justice, equality, and dignity for all remains a guiding force for public institutions, particularly in the field of healthcare. He highlighted the transformative power of education as envisioned by Dr. Ambedkar, reiterated JIPMER’s commitment to nurturing excellence in medical education and training. Stressing the importance of equitable healthcare delivery, he noted that institutions like JIPMER have a vital responsibility to ensure that quality healthcare services reach the most vulnerable and marginalized sections of society. He further called upon the JIPMER community to uphold constitutional values, ethics, and compassion in their professional practice, and to contribute collectively towards building a more inclusive and healthier nation.
The programme concluded with a renewed commitment by the JIPMER fraternity to uphold the principles of equality, service, and excellence, inspired by the life and ideals of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
