The Goyal couple returned home from America nearly a decade ago and made up their mind to farm in Sundrel village of Khargone. He worked day and night to make the Murumi stony land in the surrounding area of the hill to be cultivated to make ‘green land’ of bamboo on the rocky hillside of Sundarle.
Providing employment to women
As a result, now not only their family became financially prosperous through bamboo-planting and bamboo-based industry, but in addition to adding 30 families for bamboo planting care, 70 women in two units of bamboo-made incense sticks were made. Also providing employment.
Engineer Deepak Goyal tells that he did not think of joining bamboo cultivation while returning to the state with his partner Shilpa Goyal. First came here and took up the work of fruit horticulture. After this, he became obsessed with changing the picture and fortune of his area using bamboo species.
Planting plants brought from Tripura
The Goyal couple went to various states and understood the specifics of bamboo farming and its related industries. Then he contacted the officials of the forest department of the state. Two years ago, the Goyal couple received a subsidy from the Bamboo Mission and planted a large variety of Tulda species of bamboo plants from Tripura.
Bamboo was planted by the Goyal couple in an area of about 150 acres in village Sundrel, Saikhedi, Bagdari and village Gunjari of Sanawad tehsil of Bhikangaon. He also started two units of making incense sticks from bamboo kadi last year after receiving subsidy under the Bamboo Mission Scheme. At present, 70 women are getting continuous employment in these units.
Total cost reduction with intercropping
Sharing his experience, Deepak Goel said that farmers should clear the misconception that other regular crops cannot be taken after planting bamboo. He himself has obtained the production of crops like tur, ginger, ashwagandha, pamarosa etc. as intercropping in bamboo planting. He says that intercropping reduces the overall cost and it is easy to get the benefit of all the crops in a coordinated manner with bamboo plants growing well with fertilizer and water.
Government is giving grant
Explain that, under the Madhya Pradesh State Bamboo Mission, on the planting of bamboo saplings, the beneficiary gives a grant of 120 rupees per plant in three years. Due to this grant, the cost of the farmer comes very low. The specialty is also that there is no disease or worm on this crop, which does not require the use of expensive medicines and chemical fertilizers.
Deepak Goyal said that every year about two and a half thousand quintals of bamboo leaves fall under the bamboo crop, from which high quality compost manure is made. With this, the fertility of the farm land can be strengthened. Deepak Goyal claimed on the basis of his experience that bamboo cultivation provides less risk and more profit. Every farmer should plant bamboo in 10 percent of his field.
