Meeting of the State Ganga Committee constituted under the Namami Gange programme was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Mr. Utpal Kumar Singh at Secretariat Auditorium on Friday. In the meeting, Chief Secretary, while terming the mission as important, issued instructions to complete the projects under it in a speedily manner. During the meeting, detailed information on the updated status of cleaning of banks of Ganga in Haridwar was given. While taking updated information on the 14 MLD under construction STP in Haridwar and 68 MLD under construction STP in Jagjitpur, Chief Secretary issued instructions to complete them in time. It was informed in the meeting that the work of the project has been completed in Tapovan and in Uttrakashi, the work of upgradation of urban sewerage management and previously built projects have been completed. The progress of sewerage management project work in Kirtinagar, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Karnprayag, Nandprayag, Chamoli and Gopeshwar was reviewed in detail by the Chief Secretary. Under the scheme, operational under the Namami Gange programme, in order to make river Ganga pollution free in Uttarakhand, major cities situated on the banks of Ganga, the work of urban sewage management, riverfront development and forestry intervention is being carried out. In addition, a trash boom has been set up in Haridwar to clean the river bank. Apart from this, activities of making common masses sensitive and aware for the cleanliness and protection also being organized. Arvind Singh Hayanki, Secretary, Drinking Water and Sanitation, Uttarakhand Government Uday Raj Singh, Programme Director, SPMG, Namami Gange and Uttarakhand Peyjal Nigam and officers of the Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan, Irrigation Department, Uttarakhand, Forest Department, Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board, Urban Development Department were present.
