This year, there will be four royal baths in the Kumbh Mela being held in Haridwar, which will start from Mahashivratri on March 11, Chaitra Amavasya i.e. Somvati Amavasya April 12, Baisakhi Kumbh Snan April 14 and Chaitra Purnima till April 27.
On the festival of Mauni Amavasya for Mahakumbh, devotees took a dip of faith in the Ganges. But one question is in the minds of the devotees that when will the formal commencement of Kumbh Mela in Haridwar. Notification for this has not been issued yet. Kumbh cannot be considered a ceremonial beginning unless there is a Kumbh Lagan and a notification is issued by the government.
Shahi Snan begins only when Kumbh Lagan starts. Actually, the Kumbh has not yet been formally initiated. Kumbh will begin on 11 March with the first royal bath. Thursday’s Mouni Amavasya bath, or before January, Makar Sankranti bath. This month, Basant Panchami Snan on 16 February and Magha Purnima Snan on 27 February, are all festival festivals which are falling in the year of Kumbh.
When will the Kumbh begin in Haridwar properly?
As far as the bathing of Kumbh is concerned, these are done only when there is special passion. This dedication will take place on March 11 this year and along with this the royal bath of Kumbh will also begin. All the baths that preceded it would be considered as bathing instead of Kumbh.
The Kumbh Mela in the pilgrimage town Haridwar started from 11 March 2021. Earlier, the state government will issue a notification to announce the commencement of the Kumbh Mela. So far no notification has been issued in this regard. Notification is expected by the end of this month.
What is the difference between royal bath and festival bath?

Peshwai Yatra
There is no mention in the Shastras and Puranas about the Peshwai being taken out of the royal bath, but this tradition is centuries old. The royal bathing tradition is believed to have started around the 14th century.

The royal bath is also called the Raja Yoga Snan, in which the monks and their followers take a dip in the holy river at the appointed time. According to Hindu beliefs, taking a dip in the auspicious time gives the boon of immortality.
The 13 baths are included in the tradition of royal bathing that has been going on for centuries. But this is not a Vedic tradition. In this, saints and saints who belong to various akharas demonstrate their power and splendor. It is only after the royal bath that ordinary people are allowed to take a dip in the river. Naga Sadhus go ahead in the Peshwai to be removed from the Akharas while Mahant, Mandaleshwar and then Maha Mandaleshwar, Acharya Mahamandaleshwar are followed by them. Feast baths are just like the baths falling on these festivals like normal years.
Where and why is Kumbh organized?
Actually, Kumbh means Kalash or pitcher. Its relation is related to the nectar or pot that came out at the end of the sea churning. According to Hindu beliefs, when the deity-demon was snatching the nectar kalash from each other, some drops of it fell in the three rivers of the earth. Kumbh is organized at the place where these drops fell. They are three rivers: – Ganga, Godavari and Kshipra.
