The exercise to provide relief to the operators of more than two thousand buses running in the state has started. On the demand of bus unions, the Transport Department has sent a proposal of relief to the government. Whatever decision will be taken from the government, further orders will be issued accordingly.

In fact, earlier in the Kovidkal city buses and other stage carriage buses were being operated in the state with half the capacity. After this the Kovid curfew started, then city buses stopped operating in Dehradun. Unions stopped operating vehicles in other districts of the mountain in protest against not doubling fares. The unions are constantly under pressure to give relief to the transport department. Meanwhile the Transport Department has prepared a proposal.

There are about 2800 city and other private buses registered in the state, out of which about two thousand operate continuously. Accordingly, the Transport Department has prepared a proposal that the operators of these buses should be provided relief amount of Rs 10 to 15 thousand per month. Along with this, their tax of at least six months should be waived.

A month’s tax of a bus is around 2100 to 2200 rupees. If the government gives the green signal, it can certainly bring a lot of relief to the bus owners. However, this proposal has been sent to the government. The government is yet to take a decision on this.

The strike has been going on in the state since May 2

Owners of stage carriage vehicles across the state have been on strike since May 2 after the Transport Department’s proposal to double the fare of stage carriage vehicles was rejected. Due to this, the buses considered to be the lifeline of the mountain are also unable to operate. He has warned that some relief should be provided as soon as possible or else he will be bound for the fiery agitation.
