The upcoming session of the Vidhan Sabha will now be held in Dehradun from June 14 in place of summer capital Gairsain (Bharadisain). The state government has changed the venue and date of the session. The government had decided to hold the assembly session in Gairsain from June 7. The main reason for this change is believed to be the Rajya Sabha elections in the middle of the session, the pressure of arranging a large number of devotees on the Chardham Yatra and the ongoing police recruitment in all the districts.
On behalf of the Department of Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs, information has been given to the Secretary, Legislative Assembly in this regard. In the letter issued by Additional Secretary Mahesh Chandra Kaushiva on the orders of Principal Secretary Hira Singh Bonal, there is mention of amendment in the program issued earlier.
In the letter sent to the Secretary of the Legislative Assembly, it has been said that the second session of the fifth Legislative Assembly of the state should be convened from Tuesday, June 14 to June 20 at the Dehradun Vidhan Sabha building. Earlier, the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Department had sent the program of convening the session in the Gairsain (Bharaisain) Vidhan Sabha from June 7 to the Assembly Secretary.
Two MLAs raised the demand for amendment
BJP MLA Kishor Upadhyay and BSP MLA Mohammad Shahzad had demanded change in the venue and date of the assembly session. Both had written letters in this regard. Kishor had requested the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, while Mohammad Shahzad had requested the Speaker of the Assembly to convene a session in Dehradun instead of Gairsain. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Premchand Agrawal was also requested by the police officials not to convene the session in Gairsain during a meeting.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister gave indications for amendment
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Premchand Agrawal had also indicated to change the date and venue of the session after discussions with the officials of the government and the police. In a conversation with the media, he had said that a large number of devotees are coming for the Chardham Yatra. Police recruitment is going on in all the districts.
In such a situation, it will be challenging to arrange an assembly session in Gairsain. Apart from this, he also mentioned about the Rajya Sabha election which is to be held in Dehradun on June 10, while the session was fixed in Gairsain. To avoid this dilemma, he had indicated to change the venue and date of the session.
