After the ban on single use plastic across the country from July 1, Municipal Corporation Kotdwar has also become alert. The municipal corporation has started action against people selling and using banned plastic. The corporation seized banned plastic from the establishments of 24 traders in the last two days and collected a fine of Rs 12500 while deducting their challan.
The campaign of the Municipal Corporation, which started late on Friday evening, continued for the second day on Saturday. Under the leadership of Assistant Municipal Commissioner Mohammad Kamil, the corporation employees started raids in the market regarding single use plastic. First, the corporation workers reached out to nine wholesalers and shopkeepers of banned plastic. In this, banned plastic kept in large quantities in their business establishments was confiscated. Along with this, after deducting his challan, a fine of Rs 2600 was collected from him.
On Saturday morning, after searching the shops, the municipal team confiscated the polythene kept hidden there. In the action that lasted till noon, the municipal officials seized banned goods from 15 vegetable and polythene traders and collected a fine of Rs 9900 while cutting their challans.
In the last two days, single use plastic has been recovered from 24 shopkeepers and a fine of Rs 12500 has been recovered from them. Action against banned plastic will continue.
