In order to promote the ancient potter handicraft, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the officers to start giving tea in clay pots in the State Secretariat and the Chief Minister’s residence. He was presiding over a meeting organized with an aim to revive pottery handicraft at the state secretariat on Friday.
He said that the government would provide free clay to the people involved in potter’s handicraft. Along with this, this art will also be linked to the Chief Minister’s Self-employment Scheme. The Chief Minister also took sips of tea in a glass made of clay at the Secretariat during the meeting. He said that pottery art is a rich and ancient handicraft.
Many families in Uttarakhand are associated with this art. The objective of the Central Government’s Kumhar Sashaktikaran Yojana is to revive the pottery handicraft and bring one of the most vulnerable sections of the society back to the mainstream of development by empowering the potter society socially and economically.
The Chief Minister directed the officers that the land containing such clay should be identified so that sufficient quantity of improved soil is available to the potters for making pottery. Arrangements should also be made to provide free soil from the identified land to the potters as per the requirement and standards.
The Chief Minister said that to promote potter’s handicraft in the state, giving tea in clay glasses should be started at the Chief Minister’s residence and secretariat. It should be promoted on a large scale across the state. The Chief Minister and officials started it by drinking tea in earthen glasses at the Secretariat. The Chief Minister directed that the next review meeting of Kumhari art would be held in three months.
The Chief Minister directed that a portal should be made to promote pottery handicraft. Keeping in mind the suggestions of the people associated with this science, all possible help should be given to them. People associated with handicrafts should be sent to Hunar Haats in different regions of the country. There should also be a system of proper training of the people associated with this field. Pottery is also good for art ecology.
The Chief Minister said that it is necessary to promote local products. People should also be motivated to buy lamps and other products made by potters on the festival of Deepawali.
