They won the award for a series they reported for\u00a0<em>Scroll.in<\/em>\u00a0in April 2018 about the failures of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/scroll.in\/article\/877049\/eight-terrifying-things-we-found-about-pesticide-regulation-and-use-in-india\">pesticide regulation in India<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Chari and Govindarajan received the award from President Ram Nath Kovind at an event in New Delhi on Monday. This is the second straight year Chari has won the coveted journalism award \u2013 she had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/scroll.in\/latest\/908231\/scroll-ins-mridula-chari-wins-ramnath-goenka-award-for-on-the-spot-reporting\">won the prize<\/a>\u00a0in the \u201con-the-spot reporting\u201d category for 2017.<\/p>\n<p>In the series on pesticide regulation, Chari and Govindarajan took an in-depth look at the abdication of responsibility by the government at every level, from the process of approving pesticides to the lack of periodic review, and the vacuum at the ground level where farmers are forced to rely on pesticide dealers for usage and safety information since government advisories are missing<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/expressindia.indianexpress.com\/ramnath-goenka-foundation\/index.html#about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">organisers<\/a>, the Ramnath Goenka awards \u201caim to celebrate excellence in journalism, recognise courage and commitment and showcase outstanding contributions and individuals every year\u201d.
