Leeladhar Jagudi<\/b>\u00a0is an Indian teacher, journalist and poet of Hindi literature.\u00a0He is the author of several poetry anthologies including\u00a0Natak Jari Hai<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Shankha Mukhi Shikharon Par<\/i>and is a recipient of the\u00a0Sahitya Akademi Award<\/a>,<\/sup>\u00a0for his 1997 anthology,\u00a0Anubhav Ke Aakash Mein Chand<\/i>.\u00a0The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the\u00a0Padma Shri<\/a>, in 2004, for his contributions to\u00a0Hindi literature<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Biography<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Jagudi was born on 1 July 1944 in a\u00a0Garhwali family<\/a>\u00a0in Dhangan gaon, in the\u00a0Tehri Garhwal district<\/a>of the Indian state of\u00a0Uttarakhand<\/a>.\u00a0After securing a master’s degree (MA) in Hindi language and literature, he started his career by joining\u00a0the Garhwal Rifles<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0Indian Army<\/a>. After retirement from the Army, he worked as a teacher in various schools and colleges before joining the Information and Public Relations Department of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, where he became the Deputy Director.\u00a0Later, he turned to journalism and is the Chief Editor of\u00a0Uttar Pradesh<\/i>, a monthly magazine.<\/p>\n

Jagudi has written several poems, published independently and as anthologies and his poems have been translated into English.\u00a0His first anthology,\u00a0Shankha Mukhi Shikharon Par<\/i>, was published in 1964,\u00a0followed by\u00a0Natak Jari Hai<\/i>, published in 1972.\u00a0He published\u00a0Is Yatra Mein<\/i>\u00a0in 1974which preceded nine more anthologies,including\u00a0Raat Ab Bhi Maujud Hai<\/i>,\u00a0Ghabaraye Hue Shabda<\/i>,\u00a0Bachi Hui Prithvi Par<\/i>\u00a0and award winning\u00a0Anubhav Ke Aakash Mein Chand<\/i>.\u00a0He has also written two books on the topic of adult literacy and some of his interviews have been compiled as a book,\u00a0Mere Sakshatkara<\/i>, published by Kitab Ghar Prakashan in 2003.<\/sup>\u00a0His works have been the subject of many studies, and two books,\u00a0Samkalin Kavi Liladhar Jagudi aur Dhumil<\/i>, written by Sharmila Saxena and published in 2008\u00a0and\u00a0Samakalina Kavita aura Liladhara Jagu\u1e5bi<\/i>, written by Brajamohan Sharma\u00a0have been published on them.<\/p>\n

Sahitya Akademi<\/a>\u00a0chose his\u00a0Anubhav Ke Aakash Mein Chand<\/i>\u00a0for their\u00a0annual award<\/a>\u00a0in 1997.<\/sup>\u00a0The Government of India included him in the 2004\u00a0Republic Day Honours<\/a>\u00a0list for the civilian award of the\u00a0Padma Shri<\/a>.\u00a0He is also a recipient of\u00a0Raghuvir Sahay<\/a>\u00a0Samman, Shatadal Award of Bharat Bhasha Parishad, Namit Puraskar and\u00a0Aakashvani<\/a>\u00a0Award. He lives in Joshiyara in\u00a0Uttarkashi<\/a>\u00a0district of Uttarakhand.<\/p>\n
