NAINITAL: The first lake carnival of\u00a0<\/span>Uttarakhand<\/a>, which is being hosted in\u00a0<\/span>Bhimtal<\/a>, near\u00a0<\/span>Nainital<\/a>, was inaugurated by chief minister\u00a0<\/span>Trivendra Singh Rawat<\/a>\u00a0on Sunday. The three-day carnival opened with over two dozen stalls, highlighting various cultural and social traditions as well as art forms of the state.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking at the event, the chief minister said it was a \u201cgood thing that the event was being organised in Bhimtal, as it would serve to make the off-beat locations of Uttarakhand more popular.\u201d \u201cOur famous tourist spots see thousands of tourists every week. However, these destinations like Mussoorie, Nainital, Chakrata and even Lansdowne, have a limited capacity. Uttarakhand is endowed with so much beauty that there are countless other locations like Bhimtal, which can be developed into tourist attractions as well. Therefore, festivals like these are necessary to attract more tourists (to lesser-known spots),\u201d CM Rawat said.\u00a0<\/span>
Apart from the carnival, Rawat also inaugurated several development and infrastructure projects on Sunday, including Kumaon\u2019s first tele-medicine service, the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), a special portal for ASHA workers, as well as projects in\u00a0<\/span>Haldwani<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>
A press note from the CM\u2019s office claimed that the CM inaugurated projects worth Rs 95.45 crore during the day. Addressing concerns over India\u2019s sluggish economy, the CM said that the slowdown was a temporary phase and the country would recover soon. \u201cExperts are saying that that though the growth has slowed down, it is a temporary phase and the country will come out of it soon,” he said. He added that Uttarakhand’s GDP is the second highest in the country, following that of Karnataka\u2019s. \u201cWe are the second fastest growing state in the country,\u201d the CM claimed.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
