{"id":35198,"date":"2025-12-24T19:35:24","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T14:05:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/udaen.info\/?p=35198"},"modified":"2025-12-24T19:35:27","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T14:05:27","slug":"national-consumer-day-2025-celebrated-with-the-theme-of-efficient-and-speedy-disposal-through-digital-justice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/udaen.info\/?p=35198","title":{"rendered":"National Consumer Day 2025 celebrated with the theme of \u201cEfficient and Speedy Disposal through Digital Justice\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Titleh2\"><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Subtitleh3\"><br>Shri Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food &amp; Public Distribution launched major digital, regulatory and awareness initiatives<br><br>Over 1.4 Lakh Consumer Cases Disposed in 2025 as Digital Justice Gains Momentum<br><br>90,000+ Virtual Hearings Through Video Conferencing Nationwide and \u20b942.6 Crore in Refunds Across 30 Sectors: Digital Justice Delivers for Consumers in 2025<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p> PIB Delhi<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, today celebrated&nbsp;<strong>National Consumer Day 2025<\/strong>&nbsp;at&nbsp;<strong>Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi<\/strong>, with a strong focus on accelerating consumer justice delivery through digital reforms, data-driven grievance redressal, and strengthened regulatory enforcement.The theme for National Consumer Day 2025 \u2014&nbsp;<strong>\u201cEfficient and Speedy Disposal through Digital Justice\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 underscores the Department\u2019s sustained efforts to reduce pendency, enhance transparency, and improve access to justice in line with the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image001JUAV.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On the occasion, Shri Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food &amp; Public Distribution, launched a series of high-impact<strong>&nbsp;consumer-centric digital, regulatory and awareness initiatives<\/strong>, reinforcing the Government\u2019s commitment to a transparent, technology-enabled and responsive consumer protection ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shri Pralhad Joshi, in his Inaugural Address, highlighted that \u201cThe theme \u2018Efficient and Speedy Disposal through Digital Justice\u2019 reflects our firm resolve to ensure that consumer justice is timely, accessible and responsive. As of December 2025, over 1.4 lakh cases were disposed of during the year, with over 90,000 hearings conducted through video conferencing, demonstrating the growing impact of technology-enabled consumer justice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He further stated that \u201cthe National Consumer Helpline has emerged as a strong pre-litigation grievance redressal mechanism, facilitating refunds of \u20b942.6 crore across 30 sectors by resolving over 63,800 refund-related grievances between April and December 2025. To safeguard consumers against unfair trade practices, the Central Consumer Protection Authority has issued over 450 class action notices and imposed penalties exceeding \u20b92.13 crore, including action against misleading advertisements and dark patterns in digital markets. Guided by the principle of \u2018Grahak Devo Bhavah\u2019, consumer protection remains central to our governance ethos, ensuring fair, safe and trustworthy markets for every consumer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image002KJXR.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image003R5UJ.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Shri B.L. Verma, Hon\u2019ble Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food &amp; Public Distribution remarked&nbsp;<strong>\u201c<\/strong>Today, consumers play a pivotal role in the nation\u2019s economy and are among the strongest forces in strengthening India. Flagship initiatives such as Digital India, Startup India and Make in India have empowered consumers by making them informed, aware and rights-enabled. \u201cFrom small vendors to local markets adopting digital payments, India has demonstrated that it is a nation that embraces technology, reflecting the spirit of \u2018Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas\u2019. Through sustained outreach such as the \u2018Jago Grahak Jago\u2019 campaign, citizens across all sections now know where to seek redressal.\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a><strong>Key Institutional Collaborations, Announcements and Launches Undertaken During the Event<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image0043LLN.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image005WL6J.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. Strategic MoUs Signed to Expand Cooperation and Outreach<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>An\u00a0<strong>MoU was signed between the National Test House (NTH) and the Defence Materials and Stores Research and Development Establishment (DMSRDE), DRDO<\/strong>, to enhance cooperation in testing, research and quality assurance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An\u00a0<strong>MoU was signed between the National Test House (NTH) and India Post<\/strong>, aimed at expanding outreach, logistics support and service delivery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An\u00a0<strong>MoU was exchanged between Kendriya Bhandar and the National Cooperative Consumers\u2019 Federation of India (NCCF)<\/strong>\u00a0to strengthen cooperative retail operations and consumer access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>B. Digital Initiatives<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u25cf&nbsp;<strong>AI-enabled National Consumer Helpline (NCH) Dashboard<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Launched in collaboration with IIT Kanpur to strengthen data-driven grievance redressal and proactive consumer protection.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u25cf&nbsp;<strong>Reparability Index Logo<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Unveiled by the Hon\u2019ble Minister, conceptualised through a nationwide competition with MyGov and the Chair on Consumer Law, National Law University Delhi, promoting sustainable consumption and the right to repair.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u25cf&nbsp;<strong>National Quiz on Consumer Awareness<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Launched on MyGov platform to encourage citizen engagement with consumer rights and grievance redressal mechanisms, open for participation till 15 March 2026.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u25cf&nbsp;<strong>Laboratory Data Acquisition System (LDAS) at National Test House (NER), Guwahati<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Inaugurated to modernize testing infrastructure digitally.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image0069SF8.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>C. To enhance ease of doing business, 11 entities were granted the status of Government Approved Test Centres. This marks the first time that private entities have been given GATC status. These publications are made available through the Ministry&#8217;s official website.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The event commenced with the Opening Remarks by Smt. Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, who said \u201cIn this digital era, we have tried to harness technology, as it has transformed the way we connect, work, and now seek justice. The National Consumer Helpline has been scaled up to function in an omnichannel mode and revamped with AI tools to revolutionize virtual hearings. Consumers can participate from anywhere and file complaints effortlessly. At the same time, we are preserving the human touch to ensure that no consumer is left behind. Together, we are building a system that is<strong>&nbsp;fair, equitable, and future-ready<\/strong>.\u201d<em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image011X2PX.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The event witnessed participation from Members of NCDRC and Presidents\/Members of State and District Consumer Commissions, Senior officials from BIS, NTH, Legal Metrology and other government bodies and Principal Secretaries from States, academia, consumer organisations, law firms, industry bodies and e-commerce platforms<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the inaugural session, three technical sessions are held on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Strengthening Consumer Grievance Redressal through Pre-Litigation (NCH)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>E-Jagriti: Transforming Consumer Justice Delivery<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Combating Unfair Trade Practices and Dark Patterns in Digital Markets<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image01284X3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>National Consumer Day&nbsp;<\/strong>is observed&nbsp;<strong>annually on 24 December<\/strong>&nbsp;to commemorate the enactment of the&nbsp;<strong>Consumer Protection Act, 1986<\/strong>, which laid the foundation for India\u2019s consumer protection framework. The observance reaffirms the Government of India\u2019s commitment to safeguarding consumer interests through continuous strengthening of legal, regulatory and institutional mechanisms.
