New Delhi: In a major decision aimed at saving the government expenditure, the Lok Sabha secretariat has decided to arrange accommodation for newly elected members of the Parliament in the premises of only government establishments and not in swanky five-star hotels.<\/p>\n
“We have arranged accommodation facilities for the newly elected MPs in Western Court as well in their respective state guest houses and annexe building. There is no arrangement of accommodation for newly elected MPs in any five-star hotels,” Lok Sabha secretary general Snehlata Shrivastava said on Wednesday. While elaborating about the arrangements for new members, Shrivastava said, “Extensive arrangements to render all possible assistance to the newly elected members of the 17th Lok Sabha have been made so that they do not face any inconvenience when they arrive in the capital.”<\/p>\n
“A series of in-a-first initiatives have been taken to ensure seamless facilitation of newly elected members. The Lok Sabha Secretariat has made registration formalities seamless and technology-oriented. It’s for the first time that advance copy of the documentation, containing various forms, has been forwarded to the Returning Officers for the use of the members,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Making the use of technology, all these documents, which have been categorised as Part I and Part II, are also available on the Lok Sabha website. Members can register online with regard to forms in Part I such as oath\/affirmation, specimen signature, transit accommodation, declarations under relevant rules, etc,” she said. “This time all formalities and paperwork relating to the registration, salary and allowances, nominations, transit accommodation and a host of other matters would be got completed at a single desk,” the secretary general said.<\/p>\n
As a part of the outreach plan, 56 nodal officers of the Lok Sabha Secretariat have been assigned around eight to 10 constituencies each to get in touch with the newly-elected members and to guide them about the various formalities.Further, the members would be immediately issued permanent identity cards on their arrival in Parliament House. Earlier, the members and their spouses were issued temporary passes. Several guide posts have been set up at all the terminals of IGI airport and at the New Delhi, Old Delhi and Nizamuddin railway stations to help the MPs.
