Preparations have begun to close the gates of the country’s third largest Gangotri National Park for winter. A week later, on November 30, the gates of the park will be closed for winter. During this time, trap cameras will keep an eye on the movement of wildlife in winter. For this, the forest department team has set a target of installing 75 trap cameras this year. Along with this, the team of forest personnel is also doing long distance patrolling on various track routes of the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Actually, the gates of Gangotri National Park are opened for tourists every year on April 1, which are closed for winter on November 30. In summer, forest personnel regularly patrol to monitor wildlife. At the same time, this is not possible due to heavy snowfall in winter. In such a situation, trap cameras help the park administration, when the gates of the park are opened, videos and pictures of other rare wildlife including snow leopard are often captured in these trap cameras.In the same sequence, this year also the park administration has started installing trap cameras before the park gates are closed. These are being installed in Kedartal, Gomukh track, Karcha, Chorgad, Tirpani, Neelapani, Bhaironghati and Gartang Gali of Nelang Valley etc. Apart from this, the team of forest personnel is also doing long distance patrolling on Gangotri-Kedartal track, Dumkochoud Chorgad track, Gomukh and Rudragaira track. Each patrol team includes 4 to 6 forest officers and employees. At the same time, the park administration has already started a cleanliness drive before closing the park gates. This year, 6 quintals of garbage has been collected during the cleanliness drive, in which the maximum garbage has been collected from Gomukh track, which includes food wrappers, plastic bottles, clothes etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Snow did not fall, water started freezing
The Deputy Director of the park, RN Pandey, said that the team of forest personnel who went on long distance patrol has informed that there has been no fresh snowfall in the high altitude areas and peaks of the park. However, water has started freezing due to the temperature reaching minus. Water of waterfalls and rivers has frozen in many places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is home to many rare wildlife including snow leopard
The Gangotri National Park area, established in the year 1989, is spread over 2390 square km, which is home to many rare wildlife including snow leopard. In the year 2017, the rare Argali sheep was also captured for the first time in two trap cameras here. Apart from this, brown bear, black bear, red fox, Himalayan monal, musk deer, Bharal etc. are found here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Closing of the gates of the park is a part of the regular process. For this, a target of installing 75 trap cameras has been set this time. Teams of forest personnel are also doing long distance patrolling on four tracks. The gates of the park will be closed on November 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
