The digital collection showcases the Indian cinema glorifying the bravery and sacrifice of the freedom fighters and soldiers. It shows films that reflected the undercurrents of the society and paved the way to various social reforms, and films which immortalized the heroes in uniform &#8211; the armed forces.<\/p>\n<p>Launching the exhibition as part of I&amp;B Ministry\u2019s celebration of Iconic Week of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shri Anurag Singh Thakur said that Indian Cinema is the nation\u2019s soft power and has played a big role in creating an identity for the country on the global stage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0About the virtual exhibition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2018Chitranjali @ 75\u2019, presents different moods of patriotism through 75 film posters and photographs from different language cinemas. The exhibition is divided into three segments: \u2018Freedom Struggle through the lens of Cinema\u2019, \u2018Cinema of Social Reform\u2019, and \u2018Saluting the Brave Soldiers\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Freedom Struggle through the lens of Cinema\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0portrays tales of the heroic feats of our freedom fighters, in various languages.\u00a0The bravery and sacrifice of freedom fighters find a rightful place in Indian cinema, and these stories will continue to inspire the generations to come.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/2GNNS.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Cinema of Social Reform\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0brings out the intersection of Indian cinema and the Indian Nationalist movement in the early decades of the twentieth century. It showcases the power of cinema to mobilize the energy of the people by instilling patriotism through powerful visual projections and melodies. Many of the social reform movements depicted in these films were born during these times and in a way helped galvanizing society.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/332Q9.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Saluting the Brave Soldiers\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0is a fitting tribute to the valour of the armed forces, which has been a recurring theme in our cinema. The war films showcased in this segment have succeeded in creating an aura of selfless martyrdom and immortality to the soldiers of our nation. The exhibition showcases these images to salute the heroes in uniform.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/4FQT1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some of the notable films which are included in this exhibition are:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>1857<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(Hindi, 1946) &#8211; historical fiction drama featuring Surendra and Suraiya set against the backdrop of the the First war of independence<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<strong>42<\/strong><\/em><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019\u00a0<\/span><strong><em>a.k.a Biyalish<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Bengali, 1949) &#8211; gave a detailed account of India\u2019s restless period of 1942<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Piyoli Phukun<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Assamese, 1955) \u2013 a film is based on the life and struggle of a historical character of Assam, Piyoli Phukan, son of Badan Borphukan, who revolted against British occupation. He was sentenced to death and hanged in 1830 at Jorhat.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Kadu Markani<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Gujarati, 1960) \u2013 a film paying tribute to Kadu Makrani of Kathiawad, a.k.a. Robinhood of the East, who resisted British Rule.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Kittur Chennamma<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Kannada, 1961) &#8211;\u00a0<a title=\"Historical drama film\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Historical_drama_film\">historical drama film<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0<a title=\"Kannada language\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kannada_language\">Kannada language<\/a>, directed and produced by\u00a0<a title=\"B. R. Panthulu\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/B._R._Panthulu\">B. R. Panthulu<\/a>\u00a0starring\u00a0<a title=\"B. Saroja Devi\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/B._Saroja_Devi\">B. Saroja Devi<\/a>\u00a0as\u00a0<a title=\"Kittur Chennamma\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kittur_Chennamma\">Kittur Chennamma<\/a>, who led an armed rebellion against the\u00a0<a title=\"British East India Company\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/British_East_India_Company\">British East India Company<\/a>\u00a0in 1824,<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Padandi Munduku<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Telugu, 1962) \u2013 a political film directed by\u00a0<a title=\"V. Madhusudhana Rao\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/V._Madhusudhana_Rao\">V. Madhusudhana Rao<\/a>\u00a0with Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s\u00a0 Dandi\u00a0<a title=\"Salt March\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Salt_March\">Salt March<\/a>\u00a0and India&#8217;s independence movement as its core theme.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Haqeeqat<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Hindi, 1964) \u2013 a war-drama directed and produced by\u00a0<a title=\"Chetan Anand (director)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chetan_Anand_(director)\">Chetan Anand<\/a>. The film stars\u00a0<a title=\"Dharmendra\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dharmendra\">Dharmendra<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Balraj Sahni\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Balraj_Sahni\">Balraj Sahni<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Priya Rajvansh\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Priya_Rajvansh\">Priya Rajvansh<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Sudhir (Hindi actor)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sudhir_(Hindi_actor)\">Sudhir<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Sanjay Khan\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sanjay_Khan\">Sanjay Khan<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Vijay Anand (filmmaker)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vijay_Anand_(filmmaker)\">Vijay Anand<\/a>\u00a0in major roles.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Subhash Chandra<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Bengali, 1966) \u2013 a Bengali classic directed by Pijush Bose, based on the life of\u00a0the legendary figure of Indian freedom movement Netaji\u00a0<em><strong>Subhash Chandra<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0Bose,<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Shaheed e-Azam Bhagat Singh<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Punjabi, 1974) \u2013 a bio-pic movie based on the life of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, directed by Om Bedi<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>22 June 1897<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 (Marathi, 1979) \u2013 award winning filmd based on the true life story of the assination of two British Officers \u2013 Walter Charles Rand and Charles Egerton Ayerst by Chapekar brothers in Pune in 1897.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Gandh<\/em><\/strong><em>i\u00a0<\/em>(English\/Hindi, 1982) \u2013 a biographical film acclaimed worldwide, directed by Richard Attenborough and starring Ben Kingsley as Mahatma Gandhi.\u00a0 The film won 8 Academy Awards (Oscar)\u00a0 out of 11 nominations<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Dr Ambedkar<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Telugu, 1992) \u2013 a bio-pic on Babasaheb Ambedkar directed by Bharat Parepalli.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Kaalapani<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0(<\/em>Malayalam, 1996) \u2013\u00a0<a title=\"Epic film\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Epic_film\">epic<\/a>\u00a0<a title=\"Historical drama\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Historical_drama\">historical drama<\/a>\u00a0film co-written and directed by\u00a0<a title=\"Priyadarshan\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Priyadarshan\">Priyadarshan<\/a>. Set in 1915, the film focuses on the lives of Indian\u00a0<a title=\"Indian independence movement\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indian_independence_movement\">independence activists<\/a>\u00a0incarcerated in the\u00a0<a title=\"Cellular Jail\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cellular_Jail\">Cellular Jail<\/a>\u00a0(or\u00a0<em>K\u0101l\u0101 P\u0101n\u012b<\/em>) in\u00a0<a title=\"Andaman and Nicobar Islands\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andaman_and_Nicobar_Islands\">Andaman and Nicobar Islands<\/a>\u00a0during the\u00a0<a title=\"British Raj\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/British_Raj\">British Raj<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Lokmanya : Ek Yugpurush<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Marathi, 2015). Depicts the\u00a0 life story of\u00a0<a title=\"Bal Gangadhar Tilak\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bal_Gangadhar_Tilak\">Bal Gangadhar Tilak<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; a social reformer and the freedom fighter of the\u00a0<a title=\"Indian independence movement\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indian_independence_movement\">Indian independence movement<\/a>.
