Himachal 11th, Jharkhand 12th while Uttarakhand 24th. NFSA ranking reveals Uttarakhand’s claims.
Uttarakhand has lagged behind the rest of the states in the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA). In comparison to Himachal, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand is ranked 24th in the whole country.
Ranking Index 2022 released for NFSA has revealed the data of all the states. Odisha ranks first and UP second in this index. Uttarakhand could not even make it to the top-20 in this list. Tripura ranks fifth in this list.
Himachal Pradesh ranked 11th and Jharkhand 12th. Telangana ranks 14th, Sikkim 15th, Chhattisgarh 22nd in this list. Uttarakhand is at 24th position. Only Goa, Mizoram, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Jammu and Kashmir, Andaman and Nicobar, Manipur, Meghalaya and Ladakh are below Uttarakhand.
Also in fifth place in Northeast and Himachali states
Uttarakhand’s performance in terms of implementation of NFSA has lagged far behind not only at the national level but also in 14 states of Northeast and Himalayan states. In this list, Tripura is at number one, Himachal Pradesh is second and Sikkim is at number three. Whereas Uttarakhand ranks fifth.
What is the meaning of backwardness
According to the NFSA, the central government’s schemes related to food security have standards. These standards also include controlling hunger, malnutrition including digitization, Aadhar seeding. The poor performance in the index means that the Food Supply Department of Uttarakhand has not done well on these parameters.
