The central government has provided financial assistance of Rs 15,531 crore to the farmers amidst the complete lockdown of the country to prevent the spread of Kovid-19 (Corona virus).

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, an amount of Rs 15,531 crore has been released under the Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) during the lockdown implemented from March 24 and this will benefit 7.77 crore farmer families.

The ministry issued instructions to the state governments to ensure harvesting and sale of their produce from the farmers in view of the lockdown. States have been asked to facilitate the marketing of agricultural products so that direct purchases are made by big buyers, retail traders, processors directly from farmers, FPOs, cooperatives, thereby enforcing regulations setting limits under the state APMC Act. The department is closely monitoring the inter-state movement of fruits and vegetables mandis and agricultural products.

The Ministry has recently facilitated the movement of logistic devices by the e-NAM platform (Modification of Modules). 7.76 lakh trucks and 1.92 lakh transport have already been connected to this module. With this, the yield of wheat in India has exceeded its requirement. Based on the specific demands received from other countries, NAFED has been asked to export 50 thousand metric tons of wheat to Afghanistan and 40 thousand metric tons of wheat to Lebanon under the G2G system.
