The state government has appointed former IAS officer Anil Chandra Punetha as the Chief Information Commissioner of the state. Along with Punetha, two new State Information Commissioners have also been made. Advocate Vivek Sharma, resident of Dehradun and Vipin Chandra of New Delhi will take over as the State Information Commissioner. In-charge Secretary General Administration Vinod Kumar Suman has issued a notification in this regard.

The chairs of Chief Information Commissioner and State Information Commissioner in Uttarakhand Information Commission were vacant for a long time. The selection committee headed by the Chief Minister has made the selection on the basis of the applications received by the government. Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh and Cabinet Minister Banshidhar Bhagat were also in the committee.

Punetha of Lohaghat was also the former Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh.
Became Chief Information Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha was a 1984 batch IAS officer (Seni). He retired as the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh. He is a native of Lohaghat. He studied till the seventh standard from his native village. He did his intermediate from Haridwar and graduation from Muzaffarnagar. He obtained a master’s degree in law from Delhi University. After this he was selected for the Indian Administrative Service. Due to his honest image and conscientiousness and administrative experience, he was the choice of former Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu.

The State Government has also made Advocate Vivek Sharma of Dehradun as State Information Commissioner. Sharma is said to come from the background of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He did his education from Dehradun. He completed his graduation and law from DAV PG College.
